OnePlus Two: What's the story so far?

OnePlus has confirmed the OnePlus One is finally available without an invite.
The company is starting to make a name for itself as a manufacturer of high-end smartphones with affordable price tags, even if its lineup of devices is scarcely accessible. It took more than a year to fully launch the OnePlus One, for instance, even though it has a successor smartphone in the works.
It is too early to call what the OnePlus Two will feature, but Pocket-lint has rounded up everything you need to know about OnePlus, OnePlus One, and OnePlus Two, with the purpose of helping you figure out what to expect from the company in the coming months. We've even included OnePlus Two rumours.
Confused by all the "ones"? Keep reading and let us explain.

What is OnePlus?

OnePlus is a smartphone manufacturer based in China.

What is OnePlus One?

OnePlus One is a flagship smartphone from OnePlus (it's pictured above).
During a review, Time magazine described the phone as the "Phone of Dreams". It debuted in April 2014, with a starting price of $299 for the 16GB model. Because the phone features a range of impressive specifications, an open source operating system, and an relatively cheap price tag, OnePlus ran into some scaling issues.
OnePlus One for a long time wasn't available for purchase, for instance, and it was only sold through an invite system. That said, OnePlus confirmed in April 2015 that it ended the invitation system and pre-order period for the OnePlus One and globally opened up sales.
You can now buy a OnePlus One through OnePlus' website.

What is OnePlus 2?

OnePlus Two is the confirmed successor to OnePlus One. Although OnePlus One wasn't even available to most people, rumours began surfacing in June or July 2014 about a second smartphone from OnePlus. The company stayed quiet about the existence of another smartphone - until an executive did a Reddit AMA.
OnePlus announced through the AMA that it planned to release OnePlus Two in the second or third quarter of 2015. Shortly after opening sales of the OnePlus One globally, OnePlus once again confirmed it would soon launch the OnePlus 2 (but through an invite-only system, just like it did with the OnePlus One):
"We’re committed to maintaining razor-thin margins in order to give as much value as possible back to our users, and this drastically increases our risk," explained the company. "The OnePlus Two will bring the challenges that come along with a brand new product, and initially, our invite system will help us to manage that risk."

What might OnePlus Two feature?

Display
According to a leak from CooliCool the OnePlus Two should feature a 5.5-inch display, which will be 1080p (like the current OnePlus One) or might feature an upgraded QHD display. Pocketnow has said the phone might even have a whopping 6-inch display with QHD resolution and 2.5D glass.
Size
OnePlus teased through an AMA that OnePlus planned to release OnePlus Two in the second or third quarter of 2015 and that the company was considering making a smaller device. GizmoChina also claimed a OnePlus Two compact model was in the works, building upon rumours of a OnePlus One Mini (reportedly pictured above).
It's not yet clear if this smaller device will be the OnePlus Two or an entirely different device altogether.
Specs
According to CooliCool, the OnePlus Two will feature a Snapdragon 805 processor, which is a level up from the 801. It might also have a 16-megapixel camera, 5-megapixel selfie snapper, 32GB storage, and a 3,300mAh battery. The handset is rumoured to cost around $552, which converts to £352.
Gizchina.com claimed the OnePlus Two will likely feature an 810 chipset instead, with 4 GB of RAM. In addition, Pete Lau, the founder and CEO of OnePlus, confirmed (or at least didn't deny) to fans in May via Chinese social network Weibo that the OnePlus Two will launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810.
And finally, Pocketnow has claimed the phone will boast 3GB of RAM and a fingerprint scanner.
Software
The OnePlus Two will run OnePlus One ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, Gizchina.com further claimed. Pocketnow has agreed with that rumour, suggesting the OnePlus One will most likely not be powered by CyanogenMod.
Keep in mind that OnePlus has hinted the phone's OS might be based on Android Lollipop, where as the OnePlus One runs a custom version of CyanogenMod based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat (upgradable to 4.4.4 KitKat over the air).
Pricing
The CEO of OnePlus also discussed pricing in May over Weibo. He said that 2499.99 Yuan would be a reasonable price for the OnePlus Two, which converts to £260.
