EnTech: Motorola Moto X (2015) release date, rumours and everything you need to know

Motorola Moto X (2015) release date, rumours and everything you need to know

It looks like Motorola will launch a third-generation Moto X sometime this year.
The Moto X is an Android smartphone developed and manufactured by Motorola Mobility. It first released in 2013, shortly after Google had acquired Motorola. It was then succeeded by the second-generation Moto X in 2014. Lenovo has since bought the company and is rumoured to be working on a third Moto X.
If you're wondering what the upcoming smartphone might feature, Pocket-lint has gathered up all the rumours and speculation, and we laid everything out below. We plan to update this piece with new leaks and details over time.

When will the Moto X (2015) release?

Motorola hasn't confirmed anything specific, but the first- and second-generation Moto X released in the US in August 2013 and September 2014, respectively, meaning the next Moto X might also release in the autumn. It's assumed a UK version will release at a later time (much like the first two models did).
That said, Rick Osterloh, Motorola's president, answered questions about his company on Twitter in late March. And during the QA, he revealed we can expect a 2015 version of the Moto X around the same time as previous years.
Osterloh replied that Motorola tries to “stay on a roughly annual cycle for all products including Moto X.”

How much will the Moto X (2015) cost?

The launch price for the first Moto X was around £300, while the price for the second one was closer to £420 if buying SIM-free. We'd expect pricing for the third Moto X to fall somewhere in between, though pricing for exisiting Moto X phones has fluctuated drastically since they've released due to discounts.
The Moto X typically offers great value for money as a flagship handset (even if you opt to customise with a leather or other finish using Moto Maker). It's considered an affordable phone without being too budgety.

What will the Moto X (2015) feature?

Front flash and microSD

Although Motorola has yet to unveil the 2015 model of the Moto X, a Verizon engineer named Jose Arturo revealed on Google+ (the post has since been deleted) in April that Motorola plans to add a front-facing flash for selfies and microSD support to the upcoming phone, as Droid-Life spotted.
Other specs

Another website called STJS posted a leaked spec sheet for the third Moto X, which claimed the phone will feature a 5.2-inch QHD AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of memory, a 16MP Clear Pixel camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, and a 3,280 mAh battery.
Software
The leaked spreadsheet published by STJS also claimed the third Moto X would run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
