Canon's new media station keeps your photos and videos in one place



Canon has been teasing this type of device for a long, long time now, and today it is unveiling something fresh at CES 2015. Known as the Cross Media station in its earlier stages, the new Connect Station CS100 is a physical media hub that lets you easily store, transfer, view and share all of your photos and videos. The network storage device, comes with a 1TB hard drive, WiFi, NFC and a wireless remote. In terms of accessibility, there are slots for SD and CF cards as well as USB and ethernet ports, making it rather simple to import your media files into the Connect Station.

The company the main idea with the CS100 is that you connect it to your TV or monitor at home, which you can do via HDMI, and check out images and vids from your cameras and other devices. Software-wise, the Connect Station features a user interface that organizes your content by shooting date, type of camera used and custom albums. Canon notes that transfer time of pictures and videos is, as expected, going to depend on the size of each file, but the camera maker is hoping you'll be using it a lot with its Active NFC feature -- something that Pixma printers have had for a while and has now made its way to the latest PowerShot compact cameras and Vixia camcorders.
Canon's Connect Station CS100 will be available for $299, with shipping expected to take place around June of this year.
