Over a year ago, the revenge porn king of the Internet, Hunter Moore, was arrested by the FBI. Now, the 28-year-old has pleaded guilty to unauthorized access to a computer, aiding and abetting unauthorized access of a computer, and identity theft.
Moore was the operator of the revenge porn site IsAnyoneUp.com, which became popular as a destination site for posting sexual images of people without their permission. In the process, it spawned a whole slew of similar sitesâ€"such as IsAnybodyDown.com and ugotposted.com, the latter belonging to Kevin Bollaert. Indeed, earlier this year Bolleart became the first person to be convicted for running a revenge porn website in the U.S.
However, Moore wasn't arrested on charges specifically relating to revenge porn. Instead, he was chargedâ€"and has now pleaded guilty toâ€"hacking and ID theft charges. Each carries a maximum penalty of two to five years in jail, though Moore will is yet to be sentenced.
Moore has, however, pleaded guilty to paying Charles "Gary" Evens to steal nude photos from victims. In Moore's plea agreement, it explains that "[t]o help populate the site with nude photos, defendant aided, abetted, and procured, and willfully caused co-defendant Charles Evens ('Evens') to intentionally access, without authorization, a computer used in interstate commerce belonging to Google by accessing the victims' e-mail accounts." Elsewhere, Moore's agreement also allows the government to delete all the data on seized digital devices.
Moore is due to return to court on February 25th, though it's suggest the appearance may be delayed until March. [Ars Technica]
