French publication LesNumeriques.com appears to have managed to get their hands on this month’s Kantar Smartphone market share numbers for France early, and it shows good momentum for our favourite OS in that country.
For the 3 months ending March 2015, Windows Phone managed to take 14.1% of the smartphone market, up 5.8% from last year.
In fact the OS appears to have taken market share from Android and especially the iPhone, with the former down 0.6% while the later is down a whopping 3.8%.
The other victim of Windows Phone’s rise is the “other†category, which is now down to only 1.9%.
As can be seen in the first graph above, the numbers is a significant improvement over a rather poor performance in 2014, with 2015 hopefully representing a return to form for Windows Phone.
For the EU5 countries Windows Phone has once again slipped below 10% to 9.9% in March 2015, but even this is a significant improvement over last year, when Windows Phone only held 8.1% market share in the region.
The numbers once again underlines the dichotomy between Windows Phone’s performance and market share in Europe vs that in its country of origin, where is is often below 5%. We are starting to see significant investment by European companies in catering for the growing number of users of the operating system there, in contrast to diminishing support in USA.
Hopefully the release of some real flagship devices will have a similar stimulating effect in the West.
